When creating a poster, there are a few questions that you need to ask. Who is it for, when is it for and ultimately, what am I advertising? Who is Ernest G Welch trying to recruit and what do we have to offer? Those are the questions that need to be answered and could be defined as the "problem" for this project.
Well, obviously we are aiming for a mostly young group. Some of them may be high school students and some may be college students who haven't decided on a major yet and some may even be transfer students; either way, its safe to say that the majority of this group falls between the ages of 16 and 22 years old. I chose to mostly illustrate the poster because I feel that young people tend to identify with illustrations more than with say...a swiss based design.
Now, what exactly do we at EWG have to offer. Money? The term 'starving artist' comes to mind. Success? Again, 'starving artist.' So what exactly do we do? We create and we have creativity to offer. I spelled that out in the poster literally and also figuratively...um...literally. I included some fantastical and mythological figures to emphasize the importance of creation.
So, basically its a poster that aims to sell our creativity through creativity.
